Private Resort Living in Palm Beach County
The city of Atlantis is viewed by its more than 2,000 residents as a lovely, peaceful oasis from the hustle and bustle of everyday life of the major metropolitan area that is South Florida and its 2 million residents of Palm Beach County.
The 834-acre country club development, which now includes only 1,024 households, that make up the city first opened 1958. It didn’t take long to feature two golf courses that became jewels for area golfers. Celebrities such as Jackie Gleason and John Davidson and others bought homes in Atlantis and frequented both golf courses.
Named after the legendary island of Atlantis, the development borders Congress Avenue to the east, Military Trail to the west and Lantana Road to the south, sitting just west of the Lantana Airport and adjacent to John F. Kennedy Hospital. It highlights three fully-staffed gated entrances – two on Congress and one on Military Trail.
The city has fostered a friendly neighborhood atmosphere highlighted my many annual events for its residents, such as the Spring Fling in April, an Independence Day firework display, a Halloween party, Christmas golf-cart parade, a Christmas-tree burning party in early January.
Today, the private golf course located at the main entrance of the city has been renamed Lost City Golf Club, featuring perfectly-manicured, lusciously-landscaped 27 holes. Its restaurant and club are accessed by membership open to all Atlantis residents. The neighboring Atlantis Country Club 18-hole course to the north and its fine-dining restaurant are open to the public and non-Atlantis residents. The city also features two tennis courts, basketball and a well-landscaped playground.
The city is maintained by its own town hall, city council, mayor, and its police department, which takes a community-friendly approach to helping residents and devoted to their safety and security. Due to their devotion and professionalism, as well as the residents’ respect and caring for each other, Atlantis boasts the lowest crime rate of any South Florida city.
